Welcome to Shuksan Middle School!

This Welcome Newsletter has videos and information to introduce the staff and provide you with information for incoming 6th grade families.

We also want to publish some of the Questions that incoming families have asked:

Q:  When is New 7th/8th Grade Student Orientation?

A:   Wednesday, August 25th, 10:00-11:30 AM.  This is a drop-in tour.

Q:  When is orientation for Gr6 students?
Thursday, August 26th from 8:45am – 10:00am (new time).  Arrive at SMS’ front door and we’ll take it from there. Please bring a water bottle, mask and wear comfortable clothes for lots of movement.

Q:  When is the first day of school?

A:  Wednesday, September 1 at 9:15am-4:15pm.  Find the school calendar and schedule here.

Q:  How do I find my bus route?

A: Please find information about bus routes here starting August 25

Q:  Where can I get information about Athletics & Activities?

A:  Go here!

Q:  Can my student participate in Shuksan Summer Reading?

A:  Yes!  We would love for each Shuksan student to “Finish 5!” this summer.  Go here for more info.

Q:  Can 6th grade students take Spanish?

A:  Yes, those students not taking Band or Orchestra are eligible for a Spanish class.  It is a class that rotates at the semester.  More questions?  Email our counselor, Jennifer Cowan, for more details.

Q: What will happen during COVID-19? and how will you let us know about any changes?

A: The school district will make the decisions about what school looks like in September 2021.  They will announce those decisions to families via email, phone calls and social media. The Shuksan team will also communicate with families. If you have questions, the best people to email after August 1, 2021, are our principals.

Q:  What is AVID and who can join?

A: We are proud of our AVID students.  You can read about AVID here and direct AVID questions to Beth Insera (our AVID coordinator).

Q:  What support services do you offer students?

A:  Please find information about support services here.

Q:  How can families learn more about Shuksan or become involved in school activities?

A:  Please find information about FIESTA (Families at Shuksan Together) here.
