Welcome to Shuksan Middle School. Our mission is to engage students in learning that develops the skills and determination to strengthen themselves, their community and the world.

We have been working with staff, students and parents to create a safe environment focused on teaching and learning every day.

Our goal is your success. We want Shuksan to be an environment that is positive, peaceful, and purposeful to prepare you for high school and high quality options after graduation. We look forward to listening to you and your ideas for making Shuksan Middle School an exciting place to learn. We look forward to supporting you in your academic, social and co-curricular pursuits. We will see you in your classrooms and in the hallways.

History

The new Shuksan Middle School opened in fall 2009, thanks to a bond to fund the project that voters approved in 2006.  The two-story building includes teaming areas for students and staff to collaborate. The “green” design complies with the Washington State Sustainable Schools Protocol (equivalent to LEED silver certification).  The original Shuksan was built in 1956 and once stood where Shuksan’s new grounds and playfields are located.

Emergency and Safety Information

Keeping our students and staff safe at school is a top priority. Bellingham Public Schools coordinates with all local emergency responders to ensure our procedures and plans for fire, earthquake, lockdowns and other drills are current and reflect best practices for student safety.
