Shuksan Middle School leadership announcement

A Message from Superintendent Greg Baker

 Dear Shuksan Families,

I wanted to share the following leadership update with you. Following a staff meeting today at Shuksan Middle School, we announced that Amy Carder will be moving roles and returning to the District Office, and Matt Whitten will be the new principal of Shuksan starting next school year.

Mr. Whitten has been principal of Birchwood Elementary School since the school reopened in August 2014. He was the principal of Geneva Elementary School from 2011-14. Prior to Geneva, he was the principal of Concrete Elementary School (K-8) for three years. From 2005-07, Mr. Whitten worked as a program support specialist for Pioneer Elementary School in Arlington. He completed his administrative internship there and taught as a physical education specialist from 2002-07. Mr. Whitten earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education from Pacific Lutheran University and his master’s degree in educational leadership and principal certification from City University.

Ms. Carder, current principal of Shuksan, will be transitioning back to the Department of Teaching and Learning, where she served as a director from 2013-15. I want to extend appreciation and gratitude to Ms. Carder for her excellent leadership at Shuksan.

Please join me in welcoming Mr. Whitten to Shuksan and wishing Ms. Carder all the best in her next adventure!

Greg Baker
