Shuksan leadership update

A Message from Principal Matt Whitten

I want to share a leadership update with you. During a staff meeting today, we announced that Elizabeth Churape García will be joining the Shuksan team as assistant principal for next fall. As you may remember, I am joining the district office team in July and Ms. Chryst will be the new Shuksan principal. Nikki Lockhart, who has been dean of students at Shuksan since 2020, will be the new assistant principal at Kulshan Middle School.

Ms. Churape García is currently an assistant principal at LaVenture Middle School and migrant program supervisor in the Mount Vernon School District. She has held a wide variety of roles within Mount Vernon schools, including dual language teacher, program coordinator, and lead school administrative assistant.

Ms. Churape García holds elementary education and multilingual learner certification from Western Washington University as well as a bachelor’s degree in public affairs, a master’s degree in public administration, and her administrative credential from Seattle University. A leader in dual language and heritage language education, she centers students in her work, looking for opportunities in which students can exercise their potential with dignity and pride in themselves.

I would like to thank the Shuksan and district staff who participated in the interview teams for assistant principal positions.

Please join me in welcoming Ms. Churape García to Shuksan Middle School, and wishing Ms. Lockhart well on her new adventure at Kulshan!
